Democrats for Education Reform (DFER) is deeply committed to supporting candidates who seek to expand policies that improve the quality of education for America’s students. While Leaders of Color has supported a number of qualified Memphis-Shelby County School Board candidates, including alumni of the Leaders of Color program, DFER has not officially endorsed any candidate in the 2024 District 2 School Board race.

Since 2018, DFER has recognized the need to train, elevate, and uplift Black and Latinx leaders to serve in political and civic positions of influence - and formed the Leaders of Color Program.  The program’s goal is to support a new generation of Black and Latinx leaders – who may not typically have the opportunities and institutional support to run for public office – develop the skills and leadership needed to win and deliver on our unwavering commitment to educational equity in their communities. Leaders of Color will continue to work tirelessly to create equitable spaces and policies that support all students while working alongside Memphis-Shelby County School Board members to ensure students have all the tools and resources needed to be successful.

Early voting ends July 27 and Election Day is August 1!
